Anne Bolt

pianist • accompanist • educator

Anne’s life has always been dedicated to music, whether as a music scholar at Wells Cathedral School, an academic at Oxford University, a solo pianist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, or a chamber musician and accompanist at Indiana University. She has been fortunate to have studied with some of the best teachers in the world (Hilary Coates and Menahem Pressler for piano, and Stephen Darlington for harmony and counterpoint), which has given her a huge breadth of knowledge and understanding.

Whilst studying as a solo pianist at Wells Cathedral School, she also discovered her love of chamber music, playing in several piano trios and quartets, as well as accompanying many of her peers in numerous concerts and competitions. This affinity with chamber music developed during her time at Oxford University where she formed the highly successful Oxford Piano Trio, which went on to win several competitions and was invited to perform as far afield as Japan and Canada as well as throughout the UK. After completing the Advanced Solo Studies Course (Piano) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Hilary Coates, she was invited by Menahem Pressler to join his studio at Indiana University and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship as well as an English Speaking Union Fellowship. During these years at Indiana, alongside developing her solo piano playing under Mr Pressler, Anne also became one of the most sought-after accompanists in the music department, playing for singers and instrumentalists alike.

Having returned to the UK nearly 30 years ago, Anne has built up a reputation as a soloist, accompanist and chamber music pianist. She is Head of Keyboard at Oakham School, a position she has held since 2006, and several of her pupils have gone on to have flourishing musical careers themselves. She makes regular appearances in the Arts for the Heart of England Festival run by David Hill, as well as being invited to play concertos with several orchestras. Anne is also the pianist in the Oakham Piano Trio (Annebeth Webb – violin and Richard Jenkinson – cello).
